How to get more Instagram views

Make original reels of three minutes or less that people watch to the end and send to friends. Hook viewers in the first seconds, avoid watermarks, borders and text-heavy slides, and use trial reels to test ideas on people who do not follow you yet. Check Account Status if views suddenly drop.
Where views come from
Your followers see some of what you post. Most new views come from recommendations: the Reels tab, Explore and suggested posts shown to people who do not follow you. So the real question is what makes Instagram willing to recommend a reel to strangers.
What Instagram says it looks for
Instagram has explained that, for reels, it predicts whether someone will watch all the way through, like it, find it entertaining or funny, and go to the audio page to make their own. It also says it avoids recommending some reels altogether.
| Helps a reel get recommended | Holds a reel back |
|---|---|
| Original content you made | Reposts of reels already on Instagram |
| Three minutes or less | Visible watermarks from other apps |
| Clear picture and sound | Low resolution, muted audio or borders |
| Moving footage that holds attention | Reels that are mostly text |
| A topic people want to share | Clickbait, engagement bait and giveaways |
Seven habits that lift views
- 1Hook in the opening secondsStart with the result, the problem or the surprising part. Skip the logo and the hello.
- 2Make it worth finishingCut every pause. A tight reel that people watch twice beats a long one they leave.
- 3Design for sendingUseful tips, local news and relatable moments get sent to friends. Ask yourself who would forward it.
- 4Add captions on screenCaptions help anyone watching with the sound off.
- 5Use search wordsPut what the reel is about, and where, in the caption.
- 6Post consistentlyA steady pace gives Instagram more to learn from than a burst then silence.
- 7Test with trial reelsProfessional accounts can show a reel to non-followers first, then share it with followers if it performs.
If your views suddenly dropped
Open Account Status in your settings. It shows whether any of your content is not eligible to be recommended. Then look at your last few reels: a watermark, a reposted clip or a giveaway post can each limit how far they travel. Fix the cause and keep posting; one weak week is normal.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best time to post on Instagram?
When your own followers are most active. Your insights show this. For recommendations to new people, the content matters more than the minute you post.
Do longer reels get more views?
Instagram says it recommends videos of three minutes or less to people who do not follow you. Shorter is usually safer.
Are trial reels seen by my followers?
No. A trial reel is shown to non-followers first and is not shown on your profile unless you decide to share it with everyone.
