Why your Facebook ads are not generating leads - and what to check

When Facebook ads produce clicks but no leads, the cause is usually one of five things: the wrong campaign goal, an offer that is not clear, creative that attracts the wrong people, a form or page that loses them, or slow follow-up. Check them in that order before changing your budget.
Check the campaign goal
If the campaign is set to traffic, engagement or awareness, Meta will find people who click or like, not people who enquire. Switch to a Leads or Sales goal and make sure the conversion you care about is being tracked.
Check the offer
Read your ad as a stranger. Is it obvious what you sell, who it is for and what they get by enquiring? “Get a free quote” is weaker than “Fixed-price bathroom quote in 24 hours”. A specific offer gives people a reason to act now.
Check the creative and audience
- Images that do not show your actual work attract curiosity, not customers.
- Very narrow audiences can starve the system of people to learn from.
- Ads running outside your service area waste budget on people you cannot help.
Check the form or landing page
- 1Count the fieldsEvery extra question loses people. Ask only what you need to call back.
- 2Test on a phoneFill in your own form. Note anything slow, confusing or broken.
- 3Match the promiseThe page should repeat the offer from the ad, not start somewhere else.
Check the follow-up
Leads go cold quickly. If replies take a day, many people will have found someone else. Make sure each lead reaches a person or an approved auto-reply within minutes, and record what happens to it.
Frequently asked questions
How long should I wait before changing a campaign?
Give it at least a week of steady spend unless something is clearly broken. Frequent edits reset learning.
Are instant forms better than a landing page?
They often produce more leads, but sometimes of lower quality. Adding a qualifying question can help.
Should I just increase the budget?
Not until the campaign produces some leads. More budget on a broken setup buys more of the same.
